Reading Method and Reading Practicum Courses

Remember these three rules when registering for the reading methods and practicum courses:

(1) students need to complete ED PS 5315 successfully before taking ED PS 5320

(2) students need to completed EDU 5316 successfully before taking EDU 5321

(3) it is highly recommended that students take ED PS 5315 and EDU 5316 the same semester. And highly recommended that students take ED PS 5320 and EDU 5321 the same semester - however, if other scheduling factors do not allow students to take both the method and practicum at the same time, then students can take the method course one semester and the practicum course the next. TL courses?

Courses that were once listed as TL can now be found under either ED PS or EDU. Here is a guide to go by-

TL 1010 is now EDU 1010
TL 5/6370 is now EDU 5370 (and after Fall 2010 will be EDU 5/6375)
TL 5316 is now EDU 5316
TL 5321 is now EDU 5321
TL 4330 is now ED PS 4330
TL 5/6005 is now ED PS 5/6005
TL 5/6315 is now ED PS 5/6315
TL 5/6320 is now ED PS 5320/6321

EDU 5370 Elementary Science Methods

Just a heads up, after Fall 2010, the Elementary Science Method course (which is listed as EDU 5370) will be listed as EDU 5375 Science Methods. The science methods course is not taught on campus. It is always taught at the Salt Lake Center for Science Education located at 1400 W. Goodwin Ave. (1145 N.)

Also, when you register for EDU 5370 or soon to be EDU 5375, you must also register for ED PS 5442 Intergrating Technology II which is a one hour online course. Students can obtain the class # for ED PS 5442 by emailing kirsten.butcher@utah.edu

ED PS 544@ Intergrating Technology II has a pre-requ which is ED PS 3140 Using Technology in Diverse classrooms. If you are transferring from SLCC then EDU 2140 Technology in the Classroom is equivalent to ED PS 3140.

ED PS 5005 Writing Inst II

Some Elementary majors have been registering for ED PS 5000 Writing Inst I, thinking they need it before they can take ED PS 5005 Writing Inst II. To clear things up, Elementary majors need to only take ED PS 5005 Writing Inst I. ED PS 5005 covers writing for grades K-6; Only Early Childhood majors take ED PS 5000 Writing Inst I because it only covers grades K-3.

Also, when you register for ED PS 5005 Writing Inst I, you must also register for ED PS 5441 Intergrating Technology I which is a one hour online course.

ED PS 5441 Intergrating Technology I has a pre-requ which is ED PS 3140 Using Technology in Diverse classrooms. If you are transferring from SLCC then EDU 2140 Technology in the Classroom is equivalent to ED PS 3140.

Math Permission #'s

If you are trying to register for a Math course and the system asks for a permission #, then go to www.math.utah.edu and click on "Math Class Permission Code Request Form"
Fill out the form and submit it online and an advisor from the Math Dept will respond back to you (within three business days).

Permission #'s

When a course is full, the system will ask for a permission number. You need to contact either the department, an advisor, or a faculty member to see if any permission #'s can be given out. Below is a general contact guide to follow -
